Trio records "Subway Token" 7" for local Chunk Records at the infamous Slaughterhouse Recording Studio in Amherst with Mark Alan Miller.

Based on word-of-mouth, and a bunch of taped bootlegs, labels both major and independent begin courting NRSK upon hearing the tapes.

Upon hearing a copy of the yet to be released MY LITTLE BASTARD SOUL Homestead Records A&R representative Camille Sciarrra calls band about signing with Homestead.

They're excited, but explain the situation with Axis Records which prompted Sciarra to make some phone calls on their behalf. To make a long story short, RIVAL TIME was already recorded, AUGUST REVITAL was being written and arranged and MY LITTLE BASTARD SOUL had yet to be released.

Finally Axis offered to sell the band's contract to Homestead for the exorbitant price of $50k! Homestead paid only $500 for Sonic Youth to record BAD MOON RISING eight years earlier.

Homestead declined, obviously, but with help from lawyer James McGarry the band was free of their Axis contract, and signs to Homestead for a one off deal for a more reasonable $5k. Still a large sum at the time, considering.
