Wind-Up gives NRSK $1000 to record a demo of their new material. If Wind-Up likes it they will option another record. If not, NRSK are free to shop the recordings elsewhere and will retain ownership of the tapes. Realizing this is very fair and might be their last chance to record on a company's tab for some time the band gives it a go.

They track ten songs with Mark Alan Miller at Slaughterhouse. Sensing the inevitable with Wind-Up, they decide to still record they way they want and do not attempt to ape the styles of the warmed-over faux-rock of the day.

Recorded in just three days, they manage to track most of what will be SINGULAR, NO ARTICLE. With nearly every song recorded in the first take, they strike a balance between the energy of their live performances and their growing sophistication within the confines of the studio. Without meaning to, they finish their fifth album.

One day after completing the mixes they leave for a three week tour of the South. Upon their return they are informed by Wind-Up that the "lack of commercial viability" is too apparent. NRSK is released from the contract.
